Happy Shrove Tuesday!

Happy Shrove Tuesday everyone!  I always used to call it Fat Tuesday, but while I was in England for a year, I experienced Shrove Tuesday instead.  While it seems Americans go all-out crazy on Fat Tuesday, the Brits celebrated the beginning of Lent with a nice, but indulgent pancake dinner.  The "pancakes" that were served were actually much lighter than American pancakes, similar to crepes.  They were filled with sugar and lemon juice, fruit and chocolate.

Is anyone else going to be having pancakes or crepes for dinner tonight?  These banana nutella ones would be sure to quench my nutella craving.

The United Plates

I stumbled upon these great prints of the States.  Here's a few that mean something to me.  I especially love how the New Mexico one looks like someone is getting ready to make some salsa!

Happy weekend everyone!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hope everyone is enjoying their Valentine's Day.  We are having a nice cozy dinner of roasted asparagus, grilled mesquite steak and baked potatoes.  And the best part, a dessert of homemade chocolate dipped strawberries!  Plus, its windy and wintery outside, so I definitely think some cuddle time is on the agenda.  Hope you had a day filled with hearts and pink!

Artichoke He(Art)

When we moved into our house, every room was the same cream color.  While I would have preferred white, an all-any-color house is just too bland for me.

The first room we painted was the nursery, when Elle was still cooking in the oven.  It is a bright yellow, and goes great with the hot pink and teal accents.  The second room we are painting is the guest bathroom.

We decided to go with Artichoke Heart by Martha Stewart.  I finally put the second coat on, but I still need to touch up the trim.  Then, to pick the art(!).

I've been scouring etsy, and I am thinking one of these artichoke prints is a must.  Eek, how do I choose!?!

A Few Things

Happy Friday everyone!  I've been hoping for some warmer weather, but everytime I went out for a walk this week with the little one it was still freezing!  I'm not giving up for a hint of Spring this weekend.  Hope its sunny in your neighborhood!

Here are a few things around the web:

The French style of educating.

I think I need to reorganize my drawers.

Looking for a Valentine's Day present?  I think a photograph of the day you met would be perfect.

I'm dying to be able to eat dinner outside.

Heart crayons as valentines.

Haha

Homemade wheat thins.

This would be great for serving cheeses.

Make a chandy out of baby jars?

Do you make your own Valentines?

Have a fabulous weekend.

xoxo,
K

Diamond Jubilee

This year marks the sixtieth anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's reign as the British monarch.  She is the second longest reigning monarch and the only other that has been king or queen long was Queen Victoria who celebrated her Diamond Jubilee in 1897.

Although the celebrations in England won't happen until June of this year, I couldn't resist saying congrats.  I'm such a huge fan of QEII.  Here's to many more years as Queen!

Sweet Nothings

How do you approach life?  Are you a thinker or a feeler?  I have never thought of myself as very touchy-feely (as they say), but since being pregnant and becoming a mom I have felt myself becoming less ruled by my head and more ruled by my heart.  Not that it isn't important to be rational and a smartypants, but I find myself taking in the moment more and finding joy in my life.

Either way, without a sense of humor, life can be pretty rough.  I think its better to just smile and enjoy the ride.

Chocolate For Breakfast

My new obsession is Nutella.  Unfortunately, for the longest time, I thought Nutella was the same thing as Vegemite and Marmite.  I am kicking myself for making this terrible mistake!

My favorite part of Nutella?  It's part of a "healthy and balanced breakfast."  Who can argue with that?
